Hinsdale 2004 Bicentennial

The 2004 Bicentennial

In 2004, Hinsdale celebrated it's 200th year of incorporation.
Part of the our celebration was an Israel Bissell Reenactment Ride from Lexington to Philadelphia on Bissell's post route on the established post road to New York City and Philadelphia, stopping at the usual mail stops along the way to alarm the citizens that the war had begun.

Doug Haskins and Dana Rivers of Peru organized a reenactment Israel Bissell ride from Lexington to Philadelphia as an event for Hinsdale’s 200th year celebration. In this day and age, the horses used were fed at gas pumps, so there were no animals harmed in this event. Members of the Berkshire Chapter of the Harley Owners Group gathered in Lee and set off to Lexington Massachusetts, (if you weren't sure), riding their clean, shiny chromed bikes to start the actual reenactment. From Lexington, Bissell rode south to the Boston Post Road that is now mostly Route 20, Route 5, and Route 1 in Connecticut. Then onto Route 5 at Springfield, south to New Haven Connecticut Route 1. Then on Route 1 to Rye New York and to lower Manhattan. He then rode through New Jersey to Philadelphia where other riders then carried the alarm out to other locations.
